The Burj Khalifa is the world's tallest building, a skyscraper located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It's a mixed-use building, housing a variety of commercial, residential, and hospitality spaces, including a hotel and luxury residences designed by Giorgio Armani. The building is a symbol of Dubai's growth and modernization, and a global icon of engineering and design.

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, standing at 828 meters (2,717 feet) with 163 floors. Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), it was designed by the American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and developed by Emaar Properties.  

Key Features & Facts:   

1. Height & Records: 

   - Tallest structure globally since its completion in 2010.  

   - Highest occupied floor (Level 163).  

   - Longest elevator travel distance (504 meters).  

   - Highest outdoor observation deck (At the Top, SKY – 555 meters).  

 

2. Architecture & Design:

  - Inspired by the Hymenocallis (desert lily) flower and Islamic architecture.  

  - Y-shaped floor plan for stability and optimal views.  

  - Cladding: Over 26,000 glass panels with aluminum and stainless steel.  

 

3. Construction:

  - Built by Samsung C&T, Besix, and Arabtec (2004–2010).  

  - Used 330,000 cubic meters of concrete and 39,000 tons of steel.  

  - Features a buttressed core for wind resistance.  

 

4. Functions:

   - Mixed-use: Residential, hotel (Armani Hotel), offices, restaurants, and observation decks. 

   - Atmosphere (restaurant on Level 122) is one of the world’s highest dining spots.   

 

5.Naming:

   - Originally called "Burj Dubai" but renamed in honor of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (UAE President) for his financial support during Dubai’s 2008 crisis.   

 

Why Was It Built?

- Part of Dubai’s strategy to diversify from oil into tourism and business.  

- Symbol of modernity, ambition, and engineering prowess.
